Reading the site
Reading does not require an account or an email address. The subscribe box on the home page is not connected to a mailing service, so an address typed there is not sent.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-M9Q6EZNLCS) to understand page visits, referrers, approximate location and device type. Google Analytics uses cookies and processes browser information, including IP addresses, under its own policy. See Google's Privacy Policy. To opt out, use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Reading counts
When an article shows a reading count, the site sets a cookie named en_vid. It is used only to count one read of that article per browser per UTC day. It cannot sign you in. The cookie is sent only with requests to /api/ on explorenote.com, and it expires at the end of the next UTC day. The server stores a hash derived from that cookie, the article and the date, plus the article's total. The article page shows only the total. The hash used for deduplication is kept for about 36 hours.
Comments
A comment needs a nickname and a message. It does not need an account, and no email address is collected. After review, the nickname, the message and the date appear under the article. The review record also keeps a country code provided by Cloudflare, and the browser identifier cut to 120 characters. Those two are not shown on the article. The comment record does not store an IP address on its own. A comment stays hidden until it is approved.
Preferences stored on your device
Theme (light, dark, or match the system) and whether the table of contents is folded are stored in the browser's local storage. They are not uploaded as an account profile.
Affiliate links
Some pages contain affiliate links. If you buy through one, the merchant may report that a commission was earned. Payment details are not sent here. See the affiliate disclosure.
What this site does not do
Personal information is not sold. Readers do not get accounts. Article pages on explorenote.com do not show third-party ads.

How long information stays
Comments stay until they are deleted. The reading-count cookie expires at the end of the next UTC day. How long analytics data is kept is set in Google Analytics.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. A comment left by a child without a parent's consent will be deleted.
Updates
When this notice changes, this page and the effective date above are updated.
